The airport is to discuss future request for proposals with prospective tenants in a bid to encourage greater participation in bids

Miami International airport will hold a meeting with potential concessionaires later this month to develop a new request for proposals. The move follows the Miami-Dade county commission's decision to reject a retail management bid from Westfield Concessions Management for 36 outlets in the airport's north and south terminals (RavenFox.com, July 15).

The commission rejected the bid, the only one received for the package, citing concerns over financial terms and lack of participation, particularly from local companies. One commissioner suggested that breaking the package into smaller bundles would encourage more companies to respond.

Items on the agenda include business terms for tenants, packaging of retail locations into multiple bundles and direct leasing opportunities, a source at the airport said. The meeting is scheduled for July 28, and a new request for proposals is likely to be issued in August.
