Miami airport will announce the winners of its speciality tenders next month after approval from the regional transport board

Miami International airport is set to announce the winners of its speciality tenders next month. Representatives from the airport will recommend the award on eight packages for 27 locations to the Regional Transportation board on July 13. Board approval follows the review of proposals by the selection committee in April.

Commercial operations manager Patricia Ryan told RavenFox.com: "A selection committee comprising various individuals from other airports, our airport and the Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO was convened to review the written proposals and hear the presentations. Each committee member allocated points based on the factors listed in the request for proposal."

The airport received responses from 12 companies with 18 different proposals for its speciality retail concessions. The request for proposals, which closed on March 10, included 10 news and gift stores, 10 speciality shops and six direct lease packages for seven lots.

The new space is mainly located in the new south terminal with limited space in the north terminal and the areas will be ready for occupancy over the next year. Contracts run for eight years with an option to extend for a further two years, but until the board approves the contract, it is uncertain when the contract terms will begin.
