Mexican airport operator faces lawsuit from Operadora
Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR)
has been issued with a lawsuit by Cancun airport retail
concessionaire Operadora Aero-Boutiques over the termination of its
contract.
ASUR claims it was within its rights to give the operator a year's
notice last August to terminate the lease. According to a statement
issued by ASUR, the terms of the lease allowed it to end the
contract providing it paid a specified amount to Operadora.
But Operadora believes it has the right to continue operating the
duty-free concession.
ASUR will contest the legal action, and said it would not have any
material adverse effect on future revenues. ASUR added that the
lawsuit was not expected to affect the progress of extension work
at Cancun International with construction of a new shopping mall
expected to be completed on schedule.
In December, travelretailworld.com sister title, Duty Free News
International reported exclusively that Operadora was omitted from
the list of companies invited to tender for a raft of new retail
contracts at Cancun, Merida and Cozumel airports. Winning bids are
due to be announced shortly.
ASUR operates nine airports in the south east region of Mexico.
