Malaysia Airports and MasterCard International have launched a joint promotion to celebrate the third anniversary of Kuala Lumpur International airport (KLIA). Offering discount prices to travellers from 1 August to 30 November, the programme called 'Shop and Sail' has been set up in conjunction with the nationwide Mega Sale retail carnival.

With each purchase of M$100 ($26) and above, charged to MasterCard, a shopper has the chance to participate in MasterCard's Priceless Moments contest. Prizes include a luxurious 14-day transatlantic cruise on the QE2 and a 12-day caribbean cruise with Seabourn Cruiseline. Over 10,000 on-the-spot mystery gifts in the form of MasterCard passport holders, cardholders and wallets are also given away each time a MasterCard holder charges at least M$200 ($52) at the airport.

The campaign was launched on 2 August by transport ministry parliamentary secretary, Donald Lim and Malaysia Airports executive director, Datuk Adnan Shamsuddin. In his speech, Lim called on the Malaysian business sector to follow MasterCard's move in providing more incentives to air travellers.

MasterCard's south east & south Asia senior vice president and general
manager, Sonny Sannon, commented: ""KLIA is one of the most advanced airports in the world today. Our promotion is an excellent opportunity for MasterCard to assist the government and Malaysia Airports in establishing KLIA as an attractive shopping haven." Sannon said transactions would likely increase four-fold at all the 66 airport retail outlets, and an increase in MasterCard card spending was expected to reach over M$126m ($33.2m).
