Pop band McFly performed a secret gig for passengers and staff after turning on the Christmas lights at London Heathrow International airport last night.
After donning pilot uniforms and switching on the lights in the terminal five arrivals area, the band serenaded passengers with various hits from its new album Above the Noise. The Christmas lights will remain on for the duration of the festive season during which time 3m passengers are expected to fly from the airport.
A member of the band said: "We've performed in some weird and wonderful locations before, but Heathrow was really special. We were able to meet fans from all over the world and we're honoured that they stopped to share that magical moment with us."
BAA director of communications Malcolm Robertson added: "We're delighted that McFly and so many passengers and staff decided to join us for the official Christmas switch-on to mark the start of the holiday season. Heathrow doesn't stop for Christmas, but that doesn't mean we can't bring the Christmas spirit to our passengers and staff."
