Master tender announced at Guayaquil

12-Dec-2002

Guayaquil Airport Authority (AAG) and a team of consultants led by Spanish bank BBVA have invited bids for a 15-year concession to upgrade and manage the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Ecuador's biggest city

Details of the pre-qualification conditions have also been published. The winner will be expected to invest $90m to renovate the current passenger and cargo terminal facilities. If traffic grows, the new concessionaire will be expected to build a new airport at Daular, with the concession period being automatically extended by the authorities

Potential bidders have been advised by AAG that all commercial concessions will lapse or can be renegotiated once the winning company takes over management. This should mean a major boost for duty-paid and duty-free retailing at the airport and could attract the interest of several regional and international operators.
