Fraport AG vice-president and co-founder of ACI is voted president of ACI Europe
The Airports Council International (ACI) board voted unanimously for Manfred Schölch to become president of its European division today. He replaces outgoing president Claudio Boccardo, who was elected in 2001.
Fraport AG vice-president Professor Schölch has represented the interests of German airports on ACI Europe's board since June 2003.
He said: "As president I will push for closer industry cooperation on a range of key issues. We must share best practice on how to tackle capacity constraints, and continue our efforts on the security and safety fronts. Our industry must unite in advancing environmental progress and the development of a premium network of global air services."
Schölch joined Fraport AG in 1971, rising to the position of vice-chairman of the executive board in 1989. His executive board responsibilities include obtaining planning permission for the expansion of Frankfurt airport's runway system. He is responsible for the airport's aviation segment, including safety and security, as well as for Fraport's legal department.
In 1991 he helped found ACI, of which he has been a member ever since.
