Retail data will be added to business intelligence software to boost sales

Manchester airport is to add retail data to business intelligence software already in use to analyse passenger spending trends and improve sales at airside shops, Computing magazine reports. The move aims to help replace revenues lost due to the increase of low-cost carriers—which pay lower landing fees—and security measures that reduce the time travellers can spend in retail outlets.

Manchester Airport information services business consultant Martin Bell told Computing: “Now we can determine how long people spend airside and make more informed decisions on how we manage our retail area. Airports have traditionally regarded retail as secondary to aviation, but we are under pressure because of the rise of low-cost carriers and we realise that we need to be more imaginative.”
