Three retail concessions in different categories are available at the airport’s Schengen departures area

Malta International airport has issued a call for tenders for three retail concessions—a 20sq m (215sq ft) costume jewellery shop, a 119sq m (1,281sq ft) branded fashion outlet and a 145sq m (1,560sq ft) souvenir, delicatessen and Maltese specialities store—at the airport’s Schengen departures area. The tender documents are available through the airport and the deadline for submissions is August 8. The airport told DFNIonline all contracts will run until 2014.

The airport has also invited interested parties to submit expressions of interest for a 180sq m (1,937sq ft) gaming hall close to the retail area and new executive lounge. Companies have until August 8 to register their interest. More information is available here.

Malta International airport, which expects passenger traffic to reach 3.5m annually by 2011, has recently appointed UK firms Pragma Consulting and The Design Solution to help develop its retail offer. The companies have planned a walk-through duty-free store, to be operated by The Nuance Group, just after the central security area, and retail outlets between catering outlets in the departures lounge. The airport registered a 20% increase in retail sales last year, driven by the refurbishment of Nuance’s outlets and the introduction of its SWIFT concept.
