The authority will use money allocated for capital expenditure to optimise retail operations at Kuala Lumpur International airport

State-owned airport authority Malaysia Airport Holdings is to devote a substantial sum of money allocated for capital expenditure to its retail optimisation plan. The company is to restart the retail renovations at Kuala Lumpur International airport that were planned for last year but were postponed to avoid disruption during the Visit Malaysia tourism campaign.

MAHB senior general manager finance Faizal Mansor said after last week’s annual general meeting that R400m ($122m) had been set aside for capital expenditure and a “big chunk of the amount” will be devoted to retail. Mansor also highlighted a 15-20% annual growth in retail business over the past few years. He anticipated a greater contribution from advertising revenues this year.

The company is optimistic about prospects for 2008 results, with MAHB managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid predicting revenue growth of 10%.
