Malaysia Airport Holdings to sell duty-free business?

13-May-2003

Malaysia Airport Holdings (MAHB) could shed its non-core business, including duty-free retail, to focus on running Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), according to local media reports

The company is understood to have submitted a proposal to the government offering senior management the opportunity to buy the assets before the sale is made public.

The Malay Mail reported that several key officials at MAHB had expressed interest in some assets, although the duty-free business was not mentioned specifically. The asset sale could count towards repaying the government Rm857m ($225m) for building KLIA.
