Malaysia Airlines boosts inflight sales by 100% over three years

Malaysia Airlines told Inflight Sales Person of the Year (ISPY) delegates that the airline had boosted its inflight sales by 100% steadily over the past three years. The increase has largely been thanks to promotions and competitions carried out in association with hotels.

Travel-retail controller Maria Carmencita Q Anonuevo revealed: “We’ve been having great success with competitions, which we have ensured we always link to duty-free sales.”

Passengers have to spend $125 on board in order to enter competitions where they have the chance to win a free holiday in exotic locations.

“On average 1,000 passengers enter each competition, which are changed regularly, providing incremental revenue,” she said.
