Macquarie Airports Group (MAG) is to acquire a 24% stake in Birmingham International airport for £84m ($120m) in a negotiated sale. The deal should be completed later this month.

MAG chairman Anthony Kahn said: "The investment signals our continued confidence in the long-term growth of the aviation sector. We look forward to working alongside fellow shareholders Aer Rianta and the District Councils together with management and employees in supporting the successful development of the airport."

Kahn added that the European aviation sector represented good prospects for investors.
