Industry-supported fund swells to $370,000

The Middle East Duty Free Association today (November 2) donated $25,000 to the fund set up by Alpha Asia to help victims of the December 2004 tsunami. MEDFA president Colm McLoughlin made the donation on behalf of the MEDFA board to Paul Topping and Rakhita Jayawardena, who have led the relief effort. The fund is helping rebuild houses for a small Sri Lankan community.

The donation brings the industry fund to $370,000. Jayawardena said: "Words are not enough to thank people for their generosity. The industry contribution has been phenomenal."

McLoughlin added: "The Sri Lankan cause is one where people can see the results of their donations, in the Travel Retail Village that is being built. We know where every dollar goes and that makes it special."
