Luton airport to get retail facelift

Airport owner TBI tells RavenFox.com it has hired retail consultants to attract brands to new space due to come online by next June
London Luton airport, owned by airport authority TBI, has begun the renovation of its terminal building, adding a second level to replace the existing facility on the first floor. The development will enhance the retail offer at the airport and ensure it is better suited to changing passenger profiles, customer services director Natalie Raper told RavenFox.com.
"The retail area in the new terminal will be the same size as the old one but will look newer and more brand-focused," she said.
Retail consultants have been hired to bring new brands into the airport and Raper says the landlord is seeking new ideas to complement some brands and concepts already present at Luton that will be moving to the top floor. "We need a bit of everything to cater for all passengers. We had a fairly good offering before but this is our one chance to change the offer and get it absolutely right," said Raper.
The airport is aiming to open the new area by the end of June next year, when the old terminal will close and the new facility will begin trading immediately. "This is so we don't lose out on passenger business or disrupt them with our building work or changeover process," said Raper.
The existing terminal on the ground floor will stand empty but there are plans to develop it into business lounges and office space.
