The Portuguese joint-venture is to open its first port store, plus outlets at two new airport locations

Portuguese duty-free retailer Lojas Francas de Portugal (LFP) has unveiled plans to continue its expansion drive with the opening of its first port store, in Lisbon, as well as three new outlets at Francisco Sa Carneiro airport in Portugal. The operator, a joint venture between The Nuance Group and Portuguese airline TAP subsidiary TAPGER, is to invest €3m ($3.6m) in the airport stores.

The company also revealed that it is to open a unit at Praia International airport on the island of Santiago, the capital of the Cape Verde archipelago.

The news follows a string of opening s from LFP earlier in the year. Most recent it opened a 55sq m (592sq ft) shop at the recently-renovated Santa Maria International Airport on the Azores Islands. In February it secured a five-year supply and management contract for duty-free retail at Luanda airport in Angola.

The company also plans to open two new shops at Oporto airport when its current expansion programme is completed this summer: a 750sq m (8,070sq ft) outlet in the Schengen area and a 250sq m (2,690sq ft) store in the non-Schengen lounge.
