Lima Airport Partners has revealed the winners of its awards for the best performing concessionaires of 2006 at Lima Jorge Chavez International airport

Peruvian airport operator Lima Airport Partners (LAP) has unveiled the winners of its awards for the best performing concessionaires of 2006 at Lima Jorge Chavez International airport.

Minimarket Airshop was named the best retailer in 2006, after restructuring its 140sq m (1,506sq ft) shop layout in the first part of the year, which led to a sales increase of 26%, improved merchandising and the introduction of higher priced personal care items, and the addition of new natural Peruvian products.

Papa John’s, which registered a 40% increase in total sales, was judged the best food and beverage operator. According to LAP head of retail and food and beverages Fiorella Carty, Papa John’s marketing initiatives also helped to increase sales throughout the airport’s food court situated landside in Peru plaza

In addition to the two main awards, Peruvian textile manufacturer Alpaca 111 was judged to have the best overall customer service by a special mystery shopper survey carried out by Lima-based market research organisation Apoyo Opinion y Mercado.

Just over 6m passengers used the Peruvian airport last year. Carty told RavenFox.com: “This was an increase of 6% on 2006 and this year we are forecasting an increase of 7%. Last year general retail sales were up by a solid 25% compared to 2005, whereas food and beverage sales increased by 27%. Spend per passenger at the end of the year was about $20 per head. In 2006 more than 16 retail outlets were opened or renovated and building work began on a 300-room airport hotel.”

The airport marketing plan for 2007 includes a repeat of the mega promotions that were so successful in 2006. The first promotion began on February 7 and allows airport users who spend the required minimum purchase, which varies store by store, to win a Ford Escape 4X4 Jeep. The promotion will last until the end of March.

In 2008 the airport plans to add 1,000 sq m (10,760sq ft) of retail space, following renovations in international arrivals and departures and domestic departures.
