Hilary Lewis is resigning as managing director of Alpha Retail, effective February 28. The company said the move came as it re-positioned its UK operations.

Ceo Kevin Abbott will assume day-to-day management responsibility for the Travel Retail division. Lewis will remain with the Group as a non-executive director and consultant working mainly on the group's international operations, including those in the US and Caribbean.

Commenting on these changes Kevin Abbott said: "We thank Hilary for her tremendous work in developing Alpha Travel Retail, and establishing firm foundations for its UK recovery and international development."

Speaking to TRW, he said there would be further changes to the company's UK management, but there would be no immediate replacement for Lewis.

Abbott said the departure of Lewis had been agreed amicably.

The move was announced to the City at 11am today.
