Lauder acquires Darphin skincar

7-May-2003

Estée Lauder Companies has acquired Paris-based prestige skincare and make-up company Laboratoires Darphin from owner André Bénet and his family

Founded in 1958, the brand is well established, particularly in Europe, and bases many of its products on natural ingredients and essential oils.

Commenting on the acquisition, Estée Lauder Companies ceo Fred Langhammer said: "Darphin is an important addition to our portfolio because it enhances our leadership in the vibrant skincare category to address the needs of an ageing demographic around the world."

Bénet will remain president of Darphin and will continue to direct its creative activities and manufacturing, as well as growing existing distribution. He said: "There is great synergy here. By joining forces with Estée Lauder, we will be able to grow more quickly and share strengths. Both companies have a history and philosophy of high-quality products, selective distribution and attention to customers' needs. I am excited to join this extremely talented group of brand builders."

Langhammer added: "Darphin is our second European-based acquisition and with this move we are one step closer to being a truly global company. We welcome Mr Bénet to our company and look forward to benefiting from his expertise and his entrepreneurial spirit."
