Inflight e-commerce company FlightStore announced Lauda-air is to be the launch customer for its interactive Internet shopping service in Spring 2001. UK-based FlightStore is currently creating a branded virtual mall tailored to Lauda Air's passenger demographics. Affiliate retailers are expected to include Berry Bros & Rudd, innovative hi-fi marketer Blueroom and many others. The system will become the world's first onboard interactive TV mall.

The FlightStore service includes managing relationships with retailers, negotiating sales commissions and controlling fulfilment infrastructure. Flightstore will then integrate the shops together into an online mall that reflects the airline's brand values. Commenting on the venture, Alexander Eisenbach, Lauda-air's Inflight Entertainment Manager said, "The simple reason we decided to work with FlightStore is not just that they came to us with a great idea. They have the knowledge and experience to make this happen."
