LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton is to purchase Glenmorangie for about £300m ($540m)

Through its subsidiary Moët Hennessy, LVMH yesterday launched a recommended public offer to the shareholders of the Scotch whisky group, which produces Glenmorangie, Ardbeg and Glen Moray.

Moët Hennessy president Christophe Navarre said: "Glenmorangie is a fine whisky, a growing brand and a strong company. It will be a fitting companion for Moët & Chandon, Hennessy and our other prestige brands. We look forward to a prosperous future together."

Moët Hennessy comprises the Wines and Spirits activities of LVMH and includes the Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, Krug, Veuve Clicquot and Hennessy brands.

Glenmorangie sells about 1.8m cases a year, including the three single malts and own-label products.
