Lojas Francas de Portugal (LFP) has opened a 55sq m mixed retail space at Santa Maria International airport

Lojas Francas de Portugal (LFP) has opened a new shop at Santa Maria International Airport on the Azores Islands. The 55sq m (592sq ft) shop offers liquor, tobacco, fragrances, cosmetics, gifts and a selection of local products.

LFP, a joint venture between The Nuance Group and TAP Air Portugal subsidiary TAPGER, was chosen by Portuguese airport authority ANA to run the shop at the newly-remodelled Santa Maria International airport.

LFP managing director António Lourenço Ferreira said: "With the opening of this shop, we are expanding our strong presence in Portugal and further strengthening our ties with ANA."

The retailer enjoyed a sales rise of 12% in 2004 and now operates 17 shops at three airports on the Portuguese mainland and three outlets on the Azores archipelago. The company plans to open two shops in Oporto and one at Terceira airport, also in the Azores, later this year.
