Kuwait Duty Free has reported sales for the year to May up 1% on the same period last year. Although the company is 11% behind forecasts made before the Gulf conflict, a spokesman said that the progress was remarkable given the direct affect the conflict had on Kuwait International airport, where passenger numbers plummeted during March and April.

The closing of the operator's landside shop on May 17 also affected sales, the spokesman said. The shop was closed to begin preparations for an outlet in a new shopping development at the airport, scheduled for completion by the end of summer.

Kuwait Duty Free is hoping to improve sales with its summer promotional campaign. Customers in the shops will be treated to special discounts and gwps, as well as the chance to enter the grand prize draw between June 1 and August 31, with the draw scheduled being held on September 02.
