The long-awaited tender process at the airport has been launched with documents covering several categories
Malaysia Airports has released the first batch of its long-awaited tenders for retail at Kuala Lumpur International airport (KLIA). A source confirmed that the tenders cover sports and luggage, watches and timepieces, gold and jewellery, pharmacy and souvenirs. Documents for the remaining categories will be released shortly.
DR Group, which owns KLIA retailers Colours & Fragrances and Chocolate Sales & Supplies, told RavenFox.com that it is interested in the souvenirs concession, which includes four locations at the airport. All contracts will run for five years.
Retailers at KLIA have been operating on one-month rolling contracts since the end of June, when their two-year extensions granted in 2003 expired. The current round of tenders will be the first full bid for concessions at the airport since 1998. Retailers had originally expected to see tender documents at the beginning of the year.
RavenFox.com understands that the first round of tenders at KLIA attracted over 100 companies to the mandatory site visit earlier this month. Interested parties have until July 25 to purchase tender documents from Malaysia Airports Holdings' procurement department.
