Korean Air pulls plug on downtown stores

The carrier announces an invigorated approach to its inflight retail business as duty-free outlets face closure
Korean Air shut down its Jeju Island duty-free shop on July 31. Its other downtown outlet, in Seoul, is also preparing to close.
The Seoul store is still trading with many discounts and special offers, but will wind up at the end of August, said Korean Air spokesman Crimson Lee. ?The reason is poor business, especially due to SARS. Instead we will focus more on our inflight duty-free business.
The airline has been operating an airport duty-free outlet in Seoul for twelve years, but has seen the fall in overseas tourists decimate sales.
