Kirk Freeport in ambitious Cayman project
Kirk Freeport is getting ready to open the first phase of a 12,000sq ft (1,115sq m) store in Grand Cayman?s new Bayshore Mall
One of the biggest duty-free projects in the Caribbean will be completed in the coming weeks, when Kirk Freeport opens the first phase of a 12,000sq ft (1,115sq m) store in Grand Cayman's new Bayshore Mall. The mall complex will be the largest of 17 that the firm operates in the Cayman Islands. Located in downtown Georgetown, it will accommodate a collection of shops, boutiques, a food court and tourist facilities. Kirk Freeport is the anchor tenant at the location. The project is the brainchild of managing director Gerry Kirkconnell, whose parents previously ran the company and began planning the project more than 10 years ago. Kirkconnell said the store design would blend a modern look with Cayman-style architecture, and promised that the store would be "among the finest in the Caribbean in terms of space and the selection available".
Originally scheduled to open in January, the first phase of the development is expected to open on March 29, and the second raft of stores about one month later.
Kirk Freeport's own fragrances store La Perfumerie will have a new location in the mall alongside two boutiques from Lladró and Lalique. The Lalique boutique will offer crystal, watches and jewellery, including the Lalique Stingray designed exclusively for Kirk Freeport. The main duty-free store will house a wide range of branded corners including Rolex and Breitling.
Destination merchandise outlet Del Sol will also be moving to Bayshore Mall.
