Retail space at Jamaica’s second international airport is set to expand
Jamaica second international airport, Normal Manley International, is to increase retail space and expand the departures hall fivefold as part of a $50m development plan. The expansion is expected to yield the airport an annual 2% increase in aeronautical and commercial revenues.
The departures hall will cover 10,000sq m (107,640sq ft) and will be located on the first floor, while arrivals will occupy the ground floor. The first phase of the three-level facility will be finished by March 2007, in time for the Cricket World Cup.
The Kingston airport primarily serves the local and business market. The main beneficiaries of the expansion of retail areas will be local retailers with existing concessions at the airport.
The airports redevelopment programme began in March, and is scheduled for completion in October 2007.
