The retailer is seeking Bt70m ($2.02m) in compensation after the nullification of its contracts at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport

King Power International Group (Thailand) is taking Airports of Thailand (AoT) to the civil courts over the nullification of its contracts at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport. The company has filed two suits, for King Power Duty Free Co and King Power Suvarnabhumi Co, and is seeking compensation of Bt70m ($2.02m).

The company said the lawsuits were filed “as a consequence of the unlawful use of law by AoT when [it] declared nullification of King Power’s two 10-year concessions” for duty-free and commercial management at Suvarnabhumi.

The compensation sought takes into account the nullification of the contracts, future earnings, the companies’ investments to date in the projects, recruitment of specialised contractors, interest and tax charges, and products purchased.

The preliminary hearing has been set for September 24.
