The Hong Kong-based retailer is to run retail and catering at four domestic airports in China
King Power Group has won retail and catering contracts at four domestic airports in China, including at the northern city of Harbin. The move marks a further step in the retailer's ambitious plans in China, where it hopes to win more business as the country's aviation market opens up.
King Power Group managing director of travel-retail Sunil Tuli said: "The Chinese duty-paid market is definitely an area of focus for us. The country sees the biggest movements of people anywhere in the world; last Golden Week for example, about 120m people travelled within China. In our new stores we'll look at introducing brands from confectionery, fashion and cosmetics. Even though the retail is duty-paid, an airport has to have some price advantage and we'll have to provide that."
Meanwhile the retailer opened its new travel accessories shop in Singapore Changi airport terminal one last week.
