At Chengdu Shuangliu International airport it runs two outlets of 60sq m (646sq ft) and 80sq m (860sq ft) selling fragrances and cosmetics. At Nanjing Lukou International airport it sells Chinese arts and handicraft items, children's clothing and toys in five outlets. And at Harbin Taiping International airport the group has secured a contract for the sale and purchase of packaged foods, drinks, daily commodities, bags, leathergoods, fashion and accessories, toys, household electrical appliances and souvenirs. It has also won Harbin's liquor and tobacco and books and magazines concessions.
King Power group managing director Antares Cheng said: "While duty-free remains a very important part of our group, this is a natural progression of our business in travel-retail. China has a huge domestic air travel market, and our experience and expertise in catering to travellers, particularly the Chinese, gives us a competitive advantage."
King Power managing director travel-retail Sunil Tuli added: "From selling local products in the domestic terminals in the airports in China, we see a lot of demand for international brands, both with local and foreign travellers who are travelling inside China, and we are now in negotiations with international brands to participate in this domestic airports business with us, and would welcome more brands to join us".
King Power also operates duty-paid concessions at Shanghai Pudong airport, along with the duty-free concessions for fashion, accessories and packaged food.
