Kappé International has unveiled a radical new formula for concession contracts, which it believes can do away with the adversarial relationship between landlord and airport retailer.
The formula, called Competence Partnership, is based on a joint venture between landlord and tenant. It does away with the need for minimum guarantees, while introducing the idea of balanced risk and reward for both parties, said Kappé.

In an exclusive interview with DFNI, owner Jacques Parson and vice-president Robert Bosman outlined the new concept. Bosman said: "For every operation we will start a new company, 50/50 owned by landlord and retailer. There is no initial fee and there is a division of the profits."

Parson said: "It's a solution based on partnership and trust. We intend to use this formula for every tender we enter in the future."
