The Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) has launched a series of initiatives to raise the profile of its duty-free shop at the new Seoul Incheon airport which went into operation last week. The store area branded as Duty Free Korea is being coordinated with KNTO's wider tourism activities to welcome visitors when they arrive in Korea.

At Incheon, KNTO offers the same services to its VIP cardholders as the previous store at Seoul Kimpo airport. KNTO is renewing the validity of the cards so that redesigned cards will be sent out to all existing cardholders before they expire in August. A dedicated management system for VIP cardholders is also being set up to handle enquiries, produce a monthly newsletter for members and send information on promotions and events. Duty Free Korea VIP cardholders also become VIP customers of the Duty Free Korea Internet Store at www.dutyfreekorea.com

The online shop in Korean, English and Japanese languages, offers a 15% discount to Gold VIP cardholders and 10% discount to Silver VIP cardholders. KNTO launched its shopping site on 1 January this year to coincide with the opening of Visit Korea Year 2001. The company also plans to hold more eye-catching events online, to compete with other duty-free operators now active on the Internet such as Hotel Lotte, Sheraton Walker Hill/SKM Duty Free and Seoul Plaza Hotel.
