The Tax Free World Association president hopes for one more year in office as the annual World Exhibition approaches
Tax Free World Association (TFWA) president Erik Juul-Mortensen is to stand for re-election in October, when the association votes in new officers and a new management committee. Juul-Mortensen announced last year that he would not seek another term in office, but cited widespread support within TFWA and the industry, plus the challenges ahead for the association, as factors in his decision to stand.
"It has been a very difficult decision for me to make," he told DFNI. "I've been concerned not to outstay my welcome. But there were other arguments that made me think again. There is a lot happening at TFWA over the coming year, including conferences in the Middle East and eastern Europe plus the second Gate One event, and I felt a responsibility to remain involved. I'm also keen to help the Duty Free World Council and the European Travel Retail Council to find their feet. And the overwhelming support I've had from the industry also had an effect on my decision."
An association veteran and president of V&S Absolut Spirits Global Duty Free, Juul-Mortensen has been involved in the Cannes show since its early days. He said that if elected, this will be his final year as TFWA president.
See the October 1 issue of DFNI, out next week, for a Cannes preview and TFWA interview.
