The industry veteran and current TFWA president is to replace John Mangiacapra when he retires in October
V&S Absolut Spirits president of global duty-free Erik Juul-Mortensen is to become the new head of liquor distribution company Maxxium Global Travel Retail (GTR), effective from October 2005. He will replace John Mangiacapra who is retiring. Mortensen's replacement at V&S will be announced shortly.
Mangiacapra commented: "Last year Maxxium Worldwide and its shareholders announced the significant expansion of Maxxium's Global Travel Retail operation beyond Europe and Asia/Pacific to cover a number of new regions, including the US market, Central and South America, the Middle East, India and Africa, as well as some east European markets.
"By January 2006, we will have completed this process and Maxxium GTR will be a truly global player in the duty-free and travel-retail market. This presents an ideal time to transfer management responsibility to Erik."
Juul-Mortensen added: "Maxxium GTR is in an exciting phase, expanding its reach and coverage of the international duty-free and travel-retail market, and I am delighted to be part of that process. The continued phenomenal growth in international travel, both for business and leisure, offers a great opportunity to further develop the position for the outstanding brands in the Maxxium portfolio."
Maxxium is jointly owned by V&S Group, The Edrington Group, Jim Beam Brands and Rémy-Cointreau. Its brand portfolio includes Rémy Martin cognac, The Famous Grouse whisky, Jim Beam bourbon and Absolut vodka.
