Nijhuis will succeed Gerlach Cerfontaine as group president and CEO from January 1 2009

The supervisory board of airport company Schiphol Group has announced that Jos Nijhuis will succeed Gerlach Cerfontaine as president and CEO from January 1 2009. The group said in a statement that Cerfontaine has reached pensionable age and will retire on that date after having led the company for 10 years.

Nijhuis is currently chairman of the board of PricewaterhouseCoopers but reaches the end of his maximum term of office on December 31. He is also the chairman of the Water-Right Foundation, member of the board of the Common Purpose Foundation and supervisory director of the Kids Moving the World Foundation.

Schiphol Group supervisory board chairman Jan Kalff said: “The supervisory directors are very happy to have found such an excellent new President in the person of Mr Nijhuis. He has all the skills required to take over from Mr Cerfontaine and look after the business interests of Amsterdam Schiphol airport without ignoring the social aspects of our international airport."

Cerfontaine added: “I believe Mr Nijhuis is the ideal successor to lead Amsterdam Schiphol airport during the next period, which will be characterised by difficult market conditions and an unprecedented need for public-private partnerships."
