James Richardson extends at Tel Aviv

26-Jul-2002

James Richardson has gained an extension to its duty-free contract at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport terminal one beyond its expiry in November

The contract will be until the new terminal three opens towards the end of 2004. As part of the extension agreement, Richardson has withdrawn a legal action against the Israel Airport Authority (IAA) that it launched earlier this year (TRW 09/01/02).

In its action, Richardson had alleged discrimination and illegal practices after local company Sakal Duty Free had gained an extension to an electronics contract in January although Richardson had offered a higher amount for the concession.

James Richardson duty-free division chairman Garry Stock told TRW: "The extension goes beyond our current option and will last until the new terminal opens. Our case against the authority is unrelated to our main duty-free contract, but we were asked to discontinue it as part of the negotiations, and we've agreed."

  • Full details will appear in the August 1 issue of Duty-Free News International, out next week.
