Growth boosted by high passenger levels and retail expansion and renovation.

New York JFK terminal four airport’s landside retailers recorded sales 15% higher in 2006 than in the previous year. The sales growth was driven by a 19% increase in passenger traffic to 3.8m, as well as commercial developments such as store expansions, additions and renovations.

In December accessories retailer Bijoux Terner joined the line-up of shops landside at T4. The store will be managed by a joint venture between Aer Rianta International and local partner Sardana, which operates 11 retail outlets at the terminal.

Other developments this year was the extension of DFS’s retail contract to May 2011 and the expansion of its fragrances and cosmetics offer. Hudson Group’s Hudson News also extended its contract until 2013 and undertook a $2.5m renovation of its 7,500sq ft (697sq m) store to evoke a New York loft-style space.

The Hudson Group plans to redevelop two pre- and two post-security Hudson News locations this year.
