The Swedish retailer and distributor has been selected by Gate Gourmet to develop the airline’s duty-free sales

Inflight catering company Gate Gourmet has appointed Inflight Service Europe to handle the duty-free sales on board Norwegian Air Shuttle following its contract renewal and expansion with the carrier. Inflight Service already handles the duty-free pre-pack business for FlyNordic, which has recently been acquired by Norwegian Air.

Gate Gourmet said in a statement that it will “use Inflight Service’s expertise to further develop duty-free impulse sales across the Norwegian system”. The company also plans to explore further applications of the pre-pack business throughout the airline’s network.

Gate Group senior vice-president and Gate Gourmet president for Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa Philippe Op de Beeck said: “Gate Gourmet and Inflight Service already have experience working together on a number of airlines in Scandinavia, and it has proved to be the best partner for the duty-free sales on board Norwegian’s flights.

Inflight Service CEO Peter Candell added: “We are delighted to expand our relationship with Gate Gourmet and we look forward to the mutual opportunities serving the customers of Norwegian, one of the fastest growing low-fare airlines in Europe.”
