The Global Travel Retail Summit 2004, to be held on April 19-20 at the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam, has attracted a strong line-up of speakers and delegates. The event, sub-titled Inside the Consumer Mind, is the only global travel-retail conference to focus on improving understanding of the travelling consumer and strengthening penetration and conversion rates.
Among the topics on the agenda at the summit are the differences between planned and impulse shopping, the effect of in-store merchandising on consumers' mindsets, shopping trends among low-cost and business travellers and customer expectations on pricing and product range.
A special session on the cruiseline business featuring P&O Cruises revenue manager Kirk Long and Harding Bros director Harold Gittelmon will analyse consumer behaviour onboard P&O cruises and Cunard's new luxury vessel Queen Mary II. Coffee and refreshments at the event will be sponsored by Red Bull.
The keynote speaker on day one of the summit will be Dr Don Norman, cognitive science professor emeritus at the University of California and co-founder of consulting firm Nielsen Norman Group. Virgin executive vice-president business operations retail Jean-Luc Chassigneux and Borders Booksellers airports programs senior manager Terry Bell will also participate in a specialist retailer panel discussion.
Among those companies sending delegates to the event are Aldeasa, Hugo Boss, Brussels International airport, Dufry, Elizabeth Arden, Airport Authority Hong Kong, Kappé Schiphol, Pernod Ricard World Trade, Unilever and Wm Grant & Sons.
