The airport’s concession outreach meeting last week was well attended, according to local reports
Indianapolis International airport attracted more than 200 retailers and caterers to a concession outreach meeting held last week, which featured opportunities at its new midfield terminal, due to open in late 2008.The airport is seeking tenants for 55,000sq ft (5,112sq m) of retail space divided between about 50 outlets, plus kiosks, across the new Civic Plaza and two concourses.
Contracts at the existing terminal will expire when the terminal is closed, and tenants at the facility will have to bid for space at the new terminal.
"We'll be looking for a good balance of strong local, regional and national brands. And we want to create unique concepts . . . not the same thing they are going to find in other airports," Indianapolis assistant project director finance Jerry Wise told the Indianapolis Star.
The report cited EJE Travel Retail chairman Janus Holder as saying that the Newark concessionaire was interested in the business. Holder said: We see this as an opportunity to move some of our business to the Midwest. We see a lot of potential here.
