Incheon to open on March 29

South Korea's new Inchon International airport (now renamed Incheon) is to open on March 29 after almost eight years of construction. Four retailers DFS Group, Lotte, KNTO (Korea National Tourism Organization) and the Aekyung/SKM venture each have a master concession for different wings of the terminal.

The name change is to comply with a new romanisation system for Korean words. Operator Inchon International Airport Corp (IIAC) says the decision was taken "after prolonged discussion over whether to comply with the new system," which was introduced by the Korean government last June.

"The decision hopefully means an end to the confusing signs that innocent travellers currently encounter on the way to the airport'" IIAC says. The port city's name appears as Inchon on the airport itself but Inch'on on signs on the Seoul-Inchon Expressway.
