In memoriam: Fernand Lang

13-Feb-2006

The former Raymond Weil travel-retail executive and champion of inflight retail has died

Lemantrade owner and veteran of the duty-free industry Fernand Lang has died after a long illness. Lang passed away in hospital in Switzerland after suffering a heart attack.

Lang will be fondly remembered as a champion of the inflight industry, having set up the annual Airline Conference held for many years in Geneva. Together with close friend and Travel Retail Business managing editor Doug Newhouse, he worked tirelessly to promote the conference and to raise awareness of the issues faced by inflight operators.

He joined the duty-free industry with Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil, whose founder was Lang's uncle.

Fernand was a true gentleman; unfailingly polite, knowledgeable on any number of subjects and a pleasure to be with. Everyone at Raven Fox extends our deepest condolences to his friends and family.
