The airport has revealed plans to improve passenger movement through its stores as it awaits bids for its duty-free concession
Copenhagen Airports has unveiled plans to improve the passenger flow through Copenhagen Kastrup airport, maximising penetration at its duty-free store ahead of electing a new retail concessionaire. The airport will replace individual security checkpoints in terminals two and three with a new central checkpoint that will force all passengers using the terminals to pass through the duty-free store. The airport said that the change, scheduled for next year, would allow it to meet new regulatory requirements and minimise passenger waiting time. They anticipated it would have a significant impact on the new retail contract, which will come into effect after the existing agreement with The Nuance Group expires in February 2007.
"We have looked at different possible locations and are now working with this solution which forms part of the tender material for the duty-free contract," said Copenhagen Airports vice-president commercial Henrik Busch, adding that he hoped to make a decision on the new tenant by the end of August following the June 6 submission deadline. "There is plenty of time to plan the changes required by a completely new security checkpoint. We expect that the central checkpoint will increase the already large passenger flow in the area around the tax-free store."
On the tender process, Busch added: "We are pleased with the extensive interest. Among the operators who have expressed an interest, there are some who we would not have expected to be interested in this part of the world."
