IAADFS executive director Michael Payne will speak at this year's Cannes tobacco workshop

International Association of Airport Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) executive director Michael Payne is the latest senior industry executive to confirm his participation in the tobacco workshop at this year's TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

IAADFS played a big role in the industry's campaign to influence the original negotiations on the World Health Organization's (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The organiser of the Cannes workshop, the European Travel Retail Council, says it believes the Americas association's presence at this year's tobacco workshop will offer the event a global perspective.

Payne will join MEDFA president Colm McLoughlin, ASUTIL general secretary José Luis Donagaray, a senior board director from the ETRC and John Kammerman, secretary of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association, in discussing ways in which the industry can act at a time when the WHO is continuing its campaign to restrict duty-free tobacco sales.

The workshop opens with an introduction from global campaign coordinator Keith Spinks on the current status of the WHO's tobacco treaty. The panel is being moderated by Travel Retail Business managing editor Doug Newhouse, who will also provide attendees with an update on developments in their regions.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday November 1 in Auditorium 1 at the Palais des Expositions, beginning with coffee at 9am.
