Hudson wins Houston concessions

New Jersey-based Hudson Group has been awarded the $76m five-year contract to develop and operate nine new retail stores at Houston Airport System's William P Hobby airport as master concessionaire

William P Hobby is Houston's second airport with 9m domestic passengers per year.

The nine stores consist of six concepts, many of them new and local to the Houston area including participation from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Houston-based professional sports teams, museums and other local cultural icons. Concepts such as Hudson News, Euro Cafe, Hudson's Book Corner, Rodeo Houston, Discover Houston Space City, The Marketwalk Downtown, Houston City of Champions will be featured throughout the new terminal at William P Hobby airport. Members of the Houston City Council voted unanimously to award the contract yesterday.
 
"The Houston department of aviation conducted a fair and professional request for proposal and selection process in which we were pleased to participate. We were gratified to learn that our company was the overwhelming recommendation of the department and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Houston," said Hudson executive vice president Joseph DiDomizio.

Hudson News will be the anchor store in the concessions plan with five separate locations incorporating the Fox News multi-media interactive news centres. Rodeo Houston, one of the world's largest entertainment charities, will feature its own line of logo merchandise and Western clothing. Discover Houston Space City has an aeronautical theme with sections devoted to the Space Center and local museums. The Marketwalk Downtown will feature brand name fashions designed to reflect downtown Houston such as Kenneth Cole, Nine West, Perry Ellis and H20.
