Hudson to develop seven new stores at Vancouver

The new concessions at the airport’s domestic terminal and transborder area include news, gift and speciality outlets

Hudson Group has won two new retail contracts to develop seven news, gift and speciality outlets at Vancouver International airport. The shops will be located in the airport’s domestic terminal and the transborder area serving passengers travelling to the US. The new contracts are expected to generate sales of more than $50m, although the company said their duration had yet to be finalised.

The new concepts include Hudson News (gifts and news), Daniel Le Chocolat Belge (confectionery), Accessorize (fashion accessories), Sunglass Hut (sunglasses), Discover BC/Crafthouse (gifts, souvenirs and crafts) and Vancouver Aquarium (licensed gifts and apparel).

Hudson Group executive vice-president and COO Joseph DiDomizio said: “We are proud and honoured to partner with Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) in the domestic terminal, as we have done in the transborder area for the past five years. In addition to our existing operations, the new awards bring to 25 the number of exciting news, gift, café and speciality retail concessions that Hudson operates in Vancouver.”

YVR director of retail and passenger services Susan Stiene said: “Hudson’s blend of retail shops is designed to create excitement, allure and a real ‘sense of place.’  Once again, Hudson Group has exceeded our expectations with appealing concepts, great product selection and store designs that complement the overall theme of the airport.”

In a separate decision, the airport authority has awarded Hudson an Olympic Store and temporary kiosk in the transborder area offering apparel and memorabilia from the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
