Hong Kong unveils new arrivals hall
A ceremony was held at Hong Kong International airport last week to unveil the renovated arrivals hall, which is designed to offer a more impressive arrival with many new retail and food & beverage outlets, miniature gardens and passenger service counters
The re-launch ceremony was named "From renovation to fascination". A performance by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and a big splash of colour featuring a giant multicoloured butterfly impressed on guests the scale of the transformation that has been achieved over the past twelve months.
Retail space has increased by 1,380sq m (14,849sq ft) and around 1,200sq m (12,912sq ft) of this has been devoted to additional food services. Three new catering outlets have been introduced - The Spaghetti House, Ajisen Ramen and Hui Lau Shan - making a total of eight catering outlets in the area.
Other space has been taken up by three new retail outlets: Tung Fong Hong, Chow Sang Sang and Okashi Land. With the exception of Okashi Land, all the other new outlets are making their first appearance at an airport. A McDonald's and Cafe de Coral were relocated in the changes.
The ceremony was officiated by the Airport Authority ceo David Pang who said, "Our objective has been much more than simply to bring in more shops and restaurants. Instead we are aiming to turn the arrivals hall into a popular and attractive place for meeters and greeters, as well as arriving and even departing passengers, to spend time."
