The Hong Kong authorities are launching a publicity campaign highlighting the new duty-free allowances for tobacco and liquor
Hong Kong has introduced a programme to educate local residents and visitors about the new duty-free regulations on tobacco and liquor, which will be implemented on April 1. Airline, shipping and train companies have been asked to show a promotional video and distribute leaflets to customers.
Notices have been arranged for display at outbound duty-free shops at land and sea boundary checkpoints on the Chinese mainland and in Macau. Promotional videos and soundtracks will be broadcast at Hong Kong International airport, and at Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and Man Kam To checkpoints.
From April, adult passengers are entitled to enter Hong Kong with one litre of liquor and 60 cigarettes or 15 cigars or 75 grams of other manufactured tobacco. Hong Kong identity card holders must have spent 24 hours or longer outside the city to be eligible.
