The airport plans to invite bids for additional retail space including key positions in terminal one’s West Hall
Hong Kong International airport (HKIA) has announced that it is inviting bids for 17 additional retail spaces, including key positions in terminal ones West Hall, from where approximately 45% of the airports passengers and flights depart. The area contains gates 33 to 71 and has registered strong retail sales growth over the past year that surpass overall retail sales at the airport, according to HKIAs statement.
The 17 retail spaces vary in size from 19sq ft (1.8sq m) to 270sq ft (25sq m) and will be licensed for a 36-month period. The outlets will range from speciality shops to concept stores, brand retailers and catering options. HKIA added that passenger numbers in the West Hall are expected to grow continuously in the next five years.
Airport Authority Hong Kong commercial director Hans Bakker said: More transit and transfer travellers and an expected increase in overall passenger traffic mean that more people will be spending time in the West Hall and HKIA is committed to making their experience an outstanding one with world class shopping and dining. This in turn creates excellent prospects for businesses that can provide the retail options those customers want.
