Highland Distillers, part of The Edrington Group, has appointed William Ovens as duty-free/travel-retail business manager. In his new role, Ovens will concentrate on developing new market opportunities for three of the group's key brands: The Famous Grouse, The Macallan and Highland Park. In particular he will have the task of forging closer working relationships with existing distributors in Europe, as part of a major drive to increase market share.

Global duty-free director, Tim Patterson, commented: This appointment reflects the increasing importance of the duty-free and travel-retail business for the group. We have demonstrated, with the release of a number of travel-retail exclusive products, our strong committment to the sector. The Macallan Travel Range and the new Macallan Cask Strength are proving extremely popular, and with more products to come, this is a very exciting time for the group."

Ovens was previously sales manager with Ballantyne Cashmere and before that with Pringle.
